Ashlee Simpson and husband Pete Wentz are dismissing gossip reports of marital problems at the MTV Australia Awards in Sydney on Friday night by giving an onstage kiss. Ashlee made a surprise appearance onstage at the famed awards show and urged the crowd to "grab the person next to you" before planting a lengthy smooch on her hubby's lips. Wentz eventually broke away from the clinch and told the audience, "Sorry, we haven't seen each other in a while. We're going to go and find some quiet time and fornicate somewhere." The couple will celebrate their first wedding anniversary next May. Pop star Pink claimed the Best Video award for her smash hit "So What," while Katy Perry was named Breakthrough Artist.

ASHLEE SIMPSON CONFIRMS MELROSE PLACE

Pop singer Ashlee Simpson is returning to work with a role in the remake of the television show "Melrose Place." The star has been enjoying an long break from her singing and acting careers, after the birth of her son. But Simpson, who previously starred in a recurring role on "7th Heaven" in 2002, will follow up a recent guest appearance on crime drama "CSI: NY" by taking on the part of Violet, a small town girl with a sex-kitten alter ego in the updated version of "Melrose Place." Confirming the rumors, she tells the New York Post, "I'm thrilled to be joining the cast of 'Melrose Place' and look forward to being a part of its new generation of residents."

ASHLEE SIMPSON HEADS TO SEE HUBBY

Pop singing star and new mother Ashlee Simpson made her first public appearance, three weeks after giving birth to her newborn son with rocker hubby Pete Wentz. Simpson, who gave birth to their son Bronx Mowgli on November 20th, went out last night to watch husband Wentz perform with his band Fall Out Boy at a Hollywood club. Ashlee hid her post-baby body by wearing a coat, and has hit out at reporters questioning how many pounds she packed on. She tells Us Weekly, "My weight and my pant size are the absolute last thing I am concerned about. I am only concerned with having a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. "People who judge pregnant women's weight need to get a life."
