Singing superstar Beyonce Knowles insisted on keeping her April wedding to rap superstar Jay-Z very low key, because she didn't want all the attention on her. The usually guarded newlywed has previously refused to even acknowledge the fact that she's now Mrs. Shawn Carter, but she has opened up about their secret nuptials and their love for one another in the new issue of Essence magazine. Knowles revealed she shunned a big, white wedding because she's not a "traditional woman," adding: "It's been my day so many days already."And the singer claims she never wanted an engagement ring, saying "People put too much emphasis on that. It's just material and it's just silly to me."Another thing Knowles was always sure about was their commitment to one another, and she's adamant it was destiny that they would wed.She explains, "We've been together for a long time. We always knew it would happen."The couple filed their wedding license on April 18 in Scarsdale, N.Y.Labels: BEYONCE KNOWLES, GOSSIP, JAMES EDSTROM
Pop singing star Beyonce Knowles stunned everyone at Friday night's Fashion Rocks event in New York City with her own fashionable diamond rock. Beyonce showed off the $5 million wedding ring her husband Jay-Z bought her after she became his wife last April. It marked the first time the singer appeared in public with the Lorraine Schwartz gem. According to the jeweler, the huge ring features an 18-carat flawless diamond.Beyonce and Jay-Z have still to publicly confirm they are husband and wife after their highly private nuptials, but the singer's sister, Solange, recently referred to the rapper as her brother-in-law in a television interview. The ring wasn't the only thing that sparkled about Beyonce at the Radio City Music Hall event -- she performed a duet with Justin Timberlake and a tribute to blues singer Etta James, who she'll play in the upcoming movie, "Cadillac Records."She also teamed up with Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Fergie, Miley Cyrus and Rihanna, among others to perform a star-studded cancer awareness anthem, "Just Stand Up," as part of the Stand Up To Cancer telethon, which took place at the same time as Fashion Rocks.Labels: BEYONCE KNOWLES, GOSSIPJAMES EDSTROM

Beyoncé Knowles is turning her back on r'n'b to release a dance album. The 26-year-old singer has asked dance act The Freemasons to work on a new song for her next LP after her last offering 'B-Day' failed to sell as well as hoped. James Wiltshire, one half of the duo, said: "The album is going to be huge. "It will rival anything the likes of Britney and Rihanna have done recently. Beyoncé and her team can see where mistakes were made on her last album. "That was very American, very r'n'b and stripped back. This time they want to go for a more international sound and hit as many audiences as possible. "Normally big stars don't take any notice of smaller acts like ours, so her decision to work with us shows just where she is going with this album." Beyoncé's team approached James and his musical partner Russell Small after they heard the pair's official remixes of the star's hit songs 'Déjà Vu' and 'Beautiful Liar'. James told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Her management have been in almost daily contact with us ever since. "It is exciting getting to work on a new tune for her, as we get to be really creative." James, 32, revealed the pair even pushed back other top projects to work with the Bootylicious beauty. He said: "We were asked to do the remix of Britney's 'Gimme More' and to work on Donna Summer's new album. "But we put them both on hold to work with Beyoncé."Labels: BEYONCE KNOWLES, GOSSIP, JAMES EDSTROM
Beyoncé Knowles wowed fans by wearing a see-through leotard for the start of her world tour. The 'Baby Boy' singer - who recently cancelled her Malaysia concerts after refusing to conform to the country's conservative dress code - donned a series of skimpy costumes, including a risqué leotard with strategically placed Swarovski crystals, for her Ethiopia show on Saturday. Beyoncé told the 5,000 screaming fans: "I want to thank you. You have been one of the best audiences of my lifetime." Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa welcomed Beyoncé's two hour performance as part of the country's year-long celebration of its 2000th year, according to the Coptic calendar. Beyoncé's opening act, multi-platinum-selling rapper Ludacris, failed to impress the crowd. Local music promoter Michael Melake explained: "Rap music doesn't suit Ethiopia. "Ethiopians need a melody. Rap music is all about the message and we don't identify with that. It's all about the black American experience, and we don't relate to that." The Black Eyed Peas, who performed in Addis Ababa in September, also received a lukewarm reception.Labels: BEYONCE KNOWLES, GOSSIP, JAMES EDSTROM
Beyoncé Knowles cheered loudly as she watched naked women lick each other's feet in a New York club. The 'Baby Boy' singer visited New York's The Box last week to watch a racy burlesque stage show. A source told the New York Post newspaper: "Beyoncé was really making the most of the burlesque strip show. "She was on the table in the VIP balcony cheering loudly as two girls got naked and licked each others' feet. She stayed until 3.30am." The 26-year-old singer's rumoured fiancé Jay-Z was nowhere to be seen as she enjoyed the X-rated performance with three girlfriends and a "huge bodyguard". Beyoncé had a protective curtain around her table to ensure other revelers couldn't see her and her party. Meanwhile, the R'n'B star her cancelled a November Malaysian concert because she refused to tone down her own raunchy stage show. The 'Crazy In Love' singer is said to have told promoters she was not prepared to cover-up for her Kuala Lumpur concert on November 1 to appease Muslim critics.Labels: BEYONCE KNOWLES, GOSSIP, JAMES EDSTROM
Beyoncé Knowles has been told to tone down her forthcoming Malaysian concert. The 'Crazy In Love' singer was asked by promoters to keep her show, which is due to take place in Kuala Lumpur in November, "family friendly" to appease Muslim critics. Razlan Ahmad Razali, chairman of Pineapple Concerts, said: "We've informed Beyoncé's management about this issue of clothes, but it takes some of the fun out of it. "Beyoncé won't be able to do the kind of show here that she does elsewhere. She's a fashion icon, and we know that she often wears miniskirts and clothes that expose her navel during her performances. It's a pity to restrict her, because her costumes are all tasteful and glamorous". This is not the first time a US performer has been asked to tone down for a Malaysian show. Last month, Gwen Stefani, who performed in front of 7,000 fans in Kuala Lumpur, chose to don a series of different flesh-covering outfits. Her modest clothing fell in line with government rules, which stipulate female artists must be covered from their shoulders to their knees.Labels: BEYONCE KNOWLES, GOSSIP, JAMES EDSTROM
Jay-Z says he will marry Beyoncé Knowles "one day soon". At a Las Vegas press conference to announce plans to open his third 40/40 Club at the Palazzo hotel, the 37-year-old rapper - who has been dating the 26-year-old singer for over four years - confirmed they will tie the knot in the very near future. Asked if they had set a date for the wedding, Jay-Z said: "One day soon - let's leave it at that." The hip-hop mogul went on to hint he may even choose the Palazzo as the wedding venue, if the hotel's President Rob Goldstein buys Beyoncé an expensive ring. He joked: "I don't know if the wedding will be here. "It's kind of comfortable. If Rob throws in the ring, who knows?" Jay also revealed he is considering setting up home in Las Vegas. He said: "Vegas is like no other place in the world. "I'm going to ask Rob for advice. He's pretty good with the real estate. We' ll see what happens." The rap star's new $20 million, 24,000 sq ft club has floors made of 24-karat gold and platinum, 85 plasma TVs and five VIP rooms. It is scheduled to open in December.Labels: BEYONCE KNOWLES, GOSSIP, JAMES EDSTROM, JAY Z
Beyoncé Knowles fell face first down a flight of stairs during a concert. The singer was performing her hit 'Ring the Alarm' in Orlando on Tuesday night when she lost her balance and slid down a dozen steps, dropping her microphone which slid across the stage. But Beyoncé - who was wearing a trench coat and high heels for the song - quickly grabbed the mic, sprang to her feet and began singing again, barely missing a beat. A representative for the 'Dreamgirls' star said: "Beyoncé's fall on stage in Orlando, Florida, during her performance of 'Ring The Alarm' was a mere spot on an otherwise sensational, flawless show. "It was a case of her coat's hem getting caught in her shoes, but Miss Knowles picked herself right up, without missing a beat, showing to all that she is the best." One concert goer, Anette Nelson, said: "Everyone gasped. But she got up right away and acted like nothing happened. I don't even think she missed a word of the song! Everyone started cheering her on, because she recovered like a true professional." When she had finished singing, Beyoncé, 25, joked: "Don't put it on YouTube." The star recently claimed dancing in heels is not a problem, but admitted she does find it difficult to dance and sing at the same time. She said: "The easiest part is dancing in the heels. I don't even think about it anymore, it's just second nature. "But it is difficult to dance and sing at the same time. I have to make sure I'm in shape and I'm hydrated."Labels: BEYONCE KNOWLES, GOSSIP, GOSSIP JAMES EDSTROM, MUSIC

Beyoncé Knowles was taught how to belly dance by Shakira. Beyoncé, who teamed up with Shakira to record new track 'Beautiful Liar', admits the Colombian singer created most of their raunchy routine. The 'Bootylicious' singer told People magazine: "Shakira taught me how to belly dance, she taught me the whole routine. I used to watch her videos and I thought she was so cool. When she was teaching me the moves I thought, 'This is crazy, Shakira is showing me how to belly dance!' "I got the best teacher. We didn't have a lot of time to come up with the choreography - most of it was done on the spot. I was just watching her and learning from her. It was so much fun, the best energy. She was really easy to work with, so sweet and humble." The 25-year-old also revealed that although her friends didn't like her drastic weight loss for her 'Dreamgirls' role, she misses wearing being so svelte because she could wear whatever she wanted. She said: "When I did 'Dreamgirls' I did lose my curves. I remember coming home and seeing my friends and they were like, 'Who are you? Where are you?' "So if I lose too much weight I will lose my curves. When I finished 'Dreamgirls' I could wear anything and the samples fitted me. But now none of the samples fit any more! I am back to reality."Labels: BELLYDANCE, BEYONCE KNOWLES, GOSSIP, JAMES EDSTROM, NEWS
