WINONA RYDER'S NEW MOVIE ROLE

Winona Ryder's latest role is based on the Biblical Commandment "Thou shalt not steal". The 'A Scanner Darkly' star - who was famously convicted of shoplifting in 2001 - plays a woman who falls in love with and steals a ventriloquist's dummy in 'The Ten', a satirical take on the Bible's Ten Commandments. The film's co-writer Ken Marino said: "It truly was a coincidence the 'Thou shalt not steal' thing. It was pointed out to us after she told us she would do it." Liev Schreiber appears in a sequence based on the rule "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's goods", playing a police detective who covets his neighbour's CAT scan machine. 'The Ten' premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and those involved do not think the comedic twists on the Commandments will offend religious groups. Director and co-writer David Wain said: "It's just silly comedy. We're not making any statement about anything." 'Fantastic Four' beauty Jessica Alba also stars in the film as the mistress in the sketch based on "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife".

MEL GIBSON SELLS HIS MALIBU MANSION

Mel Gibson has sold his Malibu mansion for $30 million. The 'Braveheart' star made a profit of $6 million on the six bedroom beachfront property, having bought it for $24 million just two years ago. The luxury home features 10 bathrooms, a gym, a swimming pool, a wine cellar and spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. The sale, to an unnamed bidder, comes just weeks after Gibson sold his 28-room Connecticut mansion for $41 million. The actor's property portfolio still includes a California mansion, a ranch in Australia and a house in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Gibson purchased Mago Island, a private island near Fiji, from Japan's Tokyu Corporation for an estimated $17 million in December 2004. The 'Passion of the Christ' director has been married to nurse Robyn Moore for 27 years. They have seven children together - six sons and one daughter. Hannah was born in 1980, twins Edward and Christian were born in 1982, Willie in 1985, Louis in 1988, Milo in 1990, while Tommy entered the world in 1999.

BRITNEY SPEARS IS DONE WITH K-FED

BRITNEY SPEARS and KEVIN FEDERLINE’s brief marriage is officially over. The couple’s divorce was granted on Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Judge Scott Gordon signed the decree hours after Spears and Federline’s lawyers appeared in court to settle the ongoing divorce battle. Spears’ attorney Laura Wasser made a motion to keep the custody and child support provisions secret, on grounds that making it public would be harmful to the couple’s sons Sean Preston and Jayden James. KIDNAPPING FEARS FOR BRITNEY SPEARS

BRITNEY SPEARS’ lawyer has expressed fears the troubled star could fall victim to child kidnappers, according to reports. The singer was awarded joint custody of sons Sean Preston and Jayden James with ex-husband Kevin Federline at a court hearing on Monday. But attorney Laura Wasser has ordered the court documents to "be sealed" as their contents could effect the kids’ safety. Wesser says, "Such information greatly increases the chances that the actions of the media could threaten the safety of the minor children by, for example, causing a traffic accident or by exposing the minor children to criminals who might target the minor children for financial gain." The judge granted Wasser’s motion to withhold the documents pending a full hearing next month.

'Fear and Loathing.' star Benicio Del Toro was reportedly asked to make his directorial debut with 'The Rum Diary', while Josh Hartnett was also linked to the project. But according to their representatives Del Toro, Nolte and Hartnett are no longer involved with the film. Eccentric alcoholic Thompson created Gonzo journalism in the 1970s. The style of reporting involves the journalist becoming so involved in events they themselves become central figures in the story. He committed suicide in February 2005 aged 67. On August 20 that year Depp financed a private ceremony, according to Thompson's wishes, in which the writer's ashes were fired from a cannon in Aspen to the tune of Bob Dylan's 'Mr. Tambourine Man'. Thompson wrote 'The Rum Diary' in the early 60s when he was just 22, but it was not published until 1998, after the success of 'Fear and Loathing.'.

"Lindsay is in a safe place, and we are trying to strategically work out our next step." The 'I Know Who Killed Me' star was wearing an alcohol-monitoring bracelet at the time of her arrest. It regularly records the wearer's blood alcohol level from their sweat and transmits the results back to a central monitoring system, raising an alarm is alcohol is present. The alarm is also triggered if the bracelet is removed. Lindsay's lawyer, Blair Berk, insisted the actress is in the grip of a "terrible and vicious disease". MATT DAMON BANNED FROM GUNS

He said: "I went to a former Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) shotgunner and he took me out into the desert outside Los Angeles and we would work seven or eight hours at a time, firing handguns, rifles - you name it we used it. "I wanted it to be that when Bourne handles a weapon on screen he looks like he knows exactly what he is doing and you only get that sort of authenticity from familiarity." The third film in the series, 'The Bourne Ultimatum', is due in cinemas next month.

PIERCE BROSNAN NEW CARTOON VOICE

Pierce Brosnan is to be the new voice of Thomas the Tank Engine. The 54-year-old actor - who played suave spy James Bond for seven years - will narrate the popular children's TV series 'Thomas and Friends', based on Reverend W.V. Awdry's books about a busy railway station on the Island of Sodor. Pierce is the latest in a long-line of distinguished talents, including former Beatle Ringo Starr, Alec Baldwin and Michael Brandon, to take on the role since the TV series first aired in 1984. Brosnan said: "One of my fondest memories as a father was sharing the stories of 'Thomas the Tank Engine' and watching the series with my children when they were young. "I am thrilled by the opportunity to be the narrator for this beloved series, following in the shoes of so many famous names and helping introduce 'Thomas and Friends' to many more generations of children." Pierce has signed up with production company HIT Entertainment to narrate three TV series and three DVD specials. The actor has already started recording his first show 'Thomas and Friends: The Great Discovery', which will be released on DVD in 2008. HIT Entertainment CEO Bruce Steinberg said: "Brosnan brings a wealth of acting experience to the role as well as a unique voice that children around the world will recognise and trust." The 'Toxic' singer will open the latest branch of LAX nightclubs, whose investors include Christina Aguilera and Nicole Richie's former fiancé DJ AM.A LAX representative said yesterday: "Britney Spears will host the grand opening."It is not known if the 25-year-old will perform at the launch in Las Vegas' Luxor Hotel on August 31. Victoria, 33, agreed to be filmed so she could "show everybody" how "incredibly blessed" she is. She added: "It's funny. People will get to see what I'm really like. I have quite a dry sense of humor, which I hope is going to translate to Americans." Victoria, also known as Posh Spice, revealed why she agreed to a Spice Girls reunion world tour, which kicks off in Los Angeles on December 7. She said: "I want my kids to see mommy on the stage doing what I used to do and I want David to see it again. He is actually going to come on tour with me, because it starts when his soccer commitments end."

However, British bookstore Waterstone's are urging fans to sign their petition to help save the teenage sorcerer. Rowling to write more new adventures for Harry Potter and his friends no matter what happens at the end of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows'." Waterstone's spokesperson Wayne Winstone added: "We're not asking J.K Rowling to start another novel tomorrow we're just asking that she doesn't rule it out." Meanwhile, Daniel Radcliffe - who plays Harry in the film versions of the books - fears his character will be killed off. He said: "I think I might die in the final book. That's just my prediction. I think so, but I've no idea at all - I have no inside hints!"
