Johnny Depp is scared by the sight of his own blood. The Hollywood star - who plays a murderous barber in new musical film 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street' - is scared of cutting himself and wary of visiting the doctors because being "prodded and poked" makes him squeamish. Speaking at the US premiere of 'Sweeney Todd.' at New York's Ziegfeld Theatre on Monday, he said: "There's a lot of blood-letting in the film but I like to keep mine inside me thank you very much. I'm not very good with the sight of my own blood. "Nobody likes to be prodded or poked in any way, whether it's in the doctor's office or in jail." When asked if he has ever lost a lot of blood, he joked: "Yes, but I found it!" Despite using gallons of fake blood during filming, director Tim Burton shares Depp's fear of bleeding. He admitted: "I always look away when I draw blood at the doctor's office. The blood we use is very theatrical. That's one of the reasons it still feels like a play to me. The realistic edge is off." Jayne Wisener, who play's Sweeney's daughter Johanna in the movie, revealed she enjoyed the gory scenes. She said: "The blood was a bit redder than ketchup. Did I try it? No, but maybe I should have. Do you think I should've licked it off Johnny's face?"Labels: GOSSIP, JAMES EDSTROM, JOHNNY DEPP

Johnny Depp is to reprise his role as eccentric late journalist Hunter S. Thompson (left) in a new movie. Depp starred as close friend Thompson in the movie of his first novel 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' in 1998. In 2000, independent production company Shooting Gallery - which has since shut-down - and SPi Films bought the rights to his autobiographical novel 'The Rum Diary', and the same year announced plans to make the movie with Depp and Nick Nolte starring. It has now been revealed that Graham King, the Oscar-winning producer of 'The Departed', has acquired the rights and will produce the movie, starring Depp, with Warner Independent Pictures. Though no definite start date has been set, it is hoped filming will begin when Depp has completed his next movie, Mira Nair's crime drama 'Shantaram'. 'Fear and Loathing.' star Benicio Del Toro was reportedly asked to make his directorial debut with 'The Rum Diary', while Josh Hartnett was also linked to the project. But according to their representatives Del Toro, Nolte and Hartnett are no longer involved with the film. Eccentric alcoholic Thompson created Gonzo journalism in the 1970s. The style of reporting involves the journalist becoming so involved in events they themselves become central figures in the story. He committed suicide in February 2005 aged 67. On August 20 that year Depp financed a private ceremony, according to Thompson's wishes, in which the writer's ashes were fired from a cannon in Aspen to the tune of Bob Dylan's 'Mr. Tambourine Man'. Thompson wrote 'The Rum Diary' in the early 60s when he was just 22, but it was not published until 1998, after the success of 'Fear and Loathing.'.Labels: GOSSIP, GOSSIP JAMES EDSTROM, HOLLYWOOD, HUNTER THOMPSON, JOHNNY DEPP

Marilyn Manson once spent an evening with Johnny Depp waiting for the apocalypse. The goth rocker spent New Year's Eve in 1999 waiting for the new Millennium in the south of France, drinking absinthe with the 'Sweeney Todd' actor. Both stars were convinced the end of the world was imminent, but when life carried on they drowned their sorrows with the super-strength alcoholic spirit. Manson revealed to Rolling Stone magazine: "I spent Y2K New Year's Eve drinking absinthe with Johnny Depp in France. We were ready for the apocalypse and when it didn't come we were very disappointed. So we drank more absinthe and set off fireworks. Since then, I don't drink absinthe, or drink booze."Labels: GOSSIP, GOSSIP JAMES EDSTROM, HOLLYWOOD, JOHNNY DEPP, MARILYN MANSON
