Mariah's make-up free appearance as a dowdy social worker in the Lee Daniels-directed movie landed her the Supporting Actress of the Year accolade at the 14th Annual Capri Hollywood International Film Festival last week.

MARIAH CAREY HAS NEW MOVIE HOPES

Singing star Mariah Carey is desperate to prove her acting critics wrong with award winning role in new the film Push, after debuting the film at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah this weekend. Carey was ripped apart by movie reviewers after making her acting debut in 2001’s Glitter, a huge box office disaster. The singer makes her big-screen return in the drama, in which she plays a welfare case worker looking after a teen mother coping with her abusive childhood. Carey says of her emotional comeback, based on a best-selling novel, "(My character) Mrs. Weiss is sort of the eyes of the audience, the people who don’t know anybody like this in their lives. "Yes it’s her job … but even someone who goes through that every day and sees these horrific things, she hears something that changes her. "I was just glued to this book when I read it in, I guess ‘98, and it stays with you." Filmmakers are reportedly in talks with studios to find a distributor.

MARIAH CAREY PLANS NEW CHRISTMAS PIC

Movie fans will get Mariah Carey this Christmas when the superstar singer stars in a second film project inspired by her best-selling Yuletide album. Mariah announced her plans of turning around her disastrous movie debut in 2001’s Glitter with a starring role in the new movie Tennessee earlier this month. And now she has confirmed she is developing a second project for to be released in December,just in time for the big Christmas season. It will be a movie musical about a small town facing destruction by real-estate developers during the Holidays, according to the New York Daily News. The star’s producing partner Benny Medina explains to the newspaper, "Mariah doesn’t want to let that happen. Her character uses song and love to keep the Christmas spirit alive." Carey adds, "Since I recorded the Christmas album, I’ve always wanted to make a movie to go with it, something that people could watch and hear and enjoy every year. I’m into it. I’m all about the holiday season."

MARIAH CAREY'S NOT SO GOOD FLIGHT

Singing star Mariah Carey's Sunday night flight from New York to Los Angeles wasn't a good experience, thanks to an airplane mishap. The superstar had to race back from New York City after replacing Janet Jackson on the television show Saturday Night Live to finish work on her new album in L.A. But Carey missed her first plane and there wasn’t another one for hours.She explains, "There was something weird with the plane (and) everyone was waiting there for hours and hours." Carey eventually landed a private flight, on a faulty plane.She adds, "We missed the plane and then they gave me a plane without a door… You buy stock in these things, you expect them to be good."

Singer Mariah Carey is set to shock her fans with a sexy new single cover photo wearing nothing but a hat. The award winning singer bares all on the cover of her new release Touch My Body, covering her breasts and genitals with a large, wide brimmed black hat. It’s not the first time Carey has teased her fans with a naked shot. Once before she raised eyebrows with her sensual ads for signature perfume M last year. In the ad, Carey appeared to strip off for a bath.

Mariah Carey has a personal assistant who is solely responsible for her breast tape. The 'Hero' singer attended the VH1 Save the Music Foundation 10th Anniversary Gala in New York on Thursday night with an entourage of nine people, including a helper to ensure her ample boobs remain covered up at all times. A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: "One assistant was in charge of dishing out breast tape, another wore a belt with brushes and hair spray and another one had portable heated rollers. The bathroom was shut down for 10 minutes for Mariah to be primped and preened. "She also had several massive bodyguards surrounding her all night. "As she made her way around the party her entourage marched in front, holding back other guests who included John Mayer and Jon Bon Jovi and shouted, 'Get out of the way! Mariah's coming!' " The 38-year-old singer showed off her new svelte figure in a tight purple gown at the party, which she revealed was down to a diet of bland soups and water aerobics. Mariah said: "My secret is bleak diets, basically soups and fish prepared really blandly. "I have a wonderful trainer whose name is Patricia, she lives in St. Barts, poor girl. People say to me, 'Only you would fly someone from St. Barts in the Caribbean to New York to work out.' We do water aerobics mostly. "I don't feel like you have to be a size zero. We should all just embrace who we are physically. I'm not supposed to be a stick figure girl. It's just not me."

MARIAH CAREY'S STEAM TREATMENT

Mariah Carey is sleeping in a sauna every night to improve her voice. The singer was advised by her friend, the late singer Luther Vandross, to adopt the bizarre night-time routine, because steam relaxes the vocal chords. She said:"It's for my throat. Sleeping in there will make my voice better because of the steam. Luther Vandross was actually the one who told me about the humidity being helpful for the voice." However, Mariah moves to her normal bed when the searing sauna temperatures get too much. She is quoted by Britain's Daily Express newspaper as saying: "I sleep in there, on a water bed covered by a terry cloth for three hours, then I go into my normal room." The 39-year-old pop star, known for her diva-like demands, spends another 12 hours in the sack everyday to keep her incredible voice in top condition. She revealed: "I've got to sleep for a total of 15 hours to sing the way I want to."

MARIAH CAREY SPEAKS ON BREAKDOWN

Mariah Carey believes her breakdown was a major "breakthrough" in her life. The singer, who was hospitalised in 2001 after suffering from "exhaustion", is convinced she needed to hit "rock bottom" to sort her life out. She told Interview magazine: "I consider the breakdown a breakthrough. I needed to hit rock bottom. I needed to understand the cost of pushing so hard, fighting so hard against the system. But was I out of control at that moment? Yes."Mariah - who appears naked on the front of the US publication - also admits she is still learning how to successfully juggle her career and personal life. She added: "I'm far from perfect. I'm still learning. I overworked myself, and I paid the price." Mariah first sparked fears for her mental health in 2001 after she left a series of strange postings on her website complaining of being overworked.Later that year, she infamously performed a semi-strip tease during a bizarre appearance on MTV's 'Total Request Live' show, which left host Carson Daly covering his eyes. Just days later, Mariah checked into hospital.
