O.J. SIMPSON TOPS CALIFORNIA TAX LIST

Accused murderer O.J. Simpson owes California $1.5 million in back taxes, the state has announced. The Franchise Tax Board is required to post a list of California's 250 top tax debtors on its Web site each year, after notifying each person they will be publicly identified if they don't pay up on time. And troubled Simpson has made the top list for a second successive year, climbing from 33rd in 2007 to 15th on this year's list. However, Simpson's lawyer Yale Galanter claims he wasn't informed of the debt, and that his client hasn't worked in California for 12 years and owns no property in the state. Galanter says, "It's a pretty well-known fact I am his lawyer. Nobody has ever contacted me from the state of California. We've never even gotten a letter."

O.J. SIMPSON FACES THIRTY FIVE YEARS

O.J. Simpson the other day

O.J. Simpson faces 35 years in prison for alleged armed robbery, and could be denied bail. The former American football player was arrested on Sunday after he tried to forcefully reclaim his own sports memorabilia from official dealers at a hotel room in Las Vegas' Palace Station Hotel and Casino. Clark County Judge Nancy Oesterle says it is unlikely Simpson will make bail because he is a "flight risk", and has "no ties to the local community". Simpson will face Judge Ann Zimmerman tomorrow morning, where he will seek bail. If the prosecutor's office hasn't filed charges against Simpson by then, he could be released from custody. The Las Vegas District Attorney expects Simpson to be charged with seven felonies and one misdemeanour. Upon his arrest, Simpson was booked on two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two of assault with a deadly weapon and one of conspiracy to commit burglary. If convicted of the original charges, the 'Naked Gun' star could face up to 35 years in prison. Simpson denies using any firearms, and says it was merely a "confrontation" to get the memorabilia, which included his Hall of Fame certificate, autographed sports collectibles, his first wedding video and a photograph of him with former FBI director J. Edgar Hoover. Simpson's attorney Yale Galanter said the star is determined to clear his name. He said: "We believe this is an extremely defensible case based on conflicting witness statements, flip-flopping by witnesses and witnesses making deals with the government to flip." Two other men, Clarence Stewart and Walter Alexander, have also been questioned in conjunction with the incident. Police are still looking for three other suspects.

JUDGE ORDERS OJ SIMPSON BOOK

A federal judge in Miami has ordered a company owned by O.J. SIMPSON’s children to hand over any outstanding copies of controversial book IF I DID IT. Bankrupt business Lorraine Brooke Associates, run by star’s daughter Arnelle, retains the rights to the memoirs which placed the former football star a the scene of the murders of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman in 1994, reports the New York Daily News. Simpson wrote the book last year (06), but his publishing contract was terminated by News Corp head Rupert Murdoch 10 days before it was due to be released. In 1995, Simpson was acquitted of the murders of his former wife Brown and Goldman.
