Sir Elton John will sing 'Candle in the Wind' at Princess Diana's memorial concert this summer. The star will perform the reworked version for the first time since the princess' funeral in 1997, despite vowing to never play it in public again. A source said: "It would be a very fitting end to a very special day." Sir Elton - who was a close friend of Diana's - originally wrote the song in 1973 as a tribute to late Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe. He changed the lyrics in honor of Diana following her tragic death in a Paris car crash in August 1997. 'Rocket Man' singer Elton, 60, will join a host of stars confirmed to take part in the Diana memorial concert, taking place at London's Wembley Stadium on July 1, which would have been the princess's 46th birthday. Lily Allen, Duran Duran, Joss Stone and Rod Stewart are among acts set to perform at the five-hour event. Diana's sons Princes William, 24, and Harry, 22, have been planning the concert since last year.Labels: ELTON JOHN, GOSSIP, JAMES EDSTROM, MUSIC, PRINCESS DIANA, TRIBUTE

Lily Allen will perform at this summer's Concert For Diana. The 21-year-old singer has signed up for the tribute to the late Princess Diana at London's new Wembley Stadium on July 1. Sir Elton John is set to host the special night, which will include performances from Joss Stone, Pharrell Williams, Rod Stewart, Bryan Ferry and Duran Duran - who were one of Diana's favorite bands. It is not known whether Elton will perform the changed version of 'Candle in the Wind', which he sang at Diana's funeral in 1997. The eclectic line-up also features The English Ballet, renowned composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and US hip-hop artist Kanye West. Natasha Bedingfield was also added to the bill this morning along with Status Quo, Orson, The Feeling and James Morrison. It has still not known whether band Take That will perform on the night. Organizers are reportedly trying to convince Dire Straits - another of Diana's favorite acts - to appear, while the Spice Girls are also rumored to be reuniting for the concert. Diana's sons Princes William and Harry have personally approved all the acts for the show - which takes place on what would have been their mother's 46th birthday.Labels: CONCERT, ELTON JOHN, GOSSIP, JAMES EDSTROM, LILY ALLEN, PRINCESS DIANA
