Singing star R. Kelly has had his last-minute bid to postpone his child pornography trial denied. Earlier this week, Kelly's lawyers submitted a new motion appealing to have the case temporarily delayed due to a recent "torrent of publicity" surrounding the case, which they feel could have a negative effect on the trial's outcome. But a Chicago, Ill., judge dismissed Kelly's attorneys' request on Friday, when jury selection was due to start, and ruled trial proceedings will continue as planned, six years after he was charged with having sex with a minor. The 41-year-old has pleaded not guilty to 14 charges of child pornography, after a videotape emerged allegedly showing him having sex with an underage girl. However, the trial looks to be a messy one -- both Kelly and his now-23-year-old alleged sexual partner both insist it isn't them on the videotape. Kelly faces up to 15 years in prison if he's convicted.

R.Kelly has been ordered to cancel a Virginia concert scheduled to take place a day before his January 8th court hearing in Chicago. The Bump N’ Grind singer is due to stand trial for 14 child pornography charges in May, but has to attend another hearing on the case on January 14th. Judge Vincent Gaughan is taking no chances with Kelly after he failed to turn up to court earlier this month and he’s insisted the star postpones his January gig at Virginia’s Hampton Coliseum to ensure there will be no problems getting to court on time. Kelly narrowly avoided arrest in December after skipping the scheduled court date following a hold up in Utah, where he was touring. The 40-year-old claimed his tour bus had been delayed due to the snowy weather conditions and the fact that the vehicle had been pulled over by police. When he finally showed up in court on December 20th, Gaughan decided not to revoke his bail and allowed him to continue his tour of the U.S, reports Livedaily.com.Labels: GOSSIP, JAMES EDSTROM, R.
